Forest Forces Enjoy Memorable Canal Trip
Members of Nottingham Forest Foundation’s Forest Forces programme enjoyed a day out on the water yesterday, embarking on a canal trip along the picturesque Chesterfield Canal.
Setting off from Tapton Lock, local veterans boarded the John Varley II canal boat for a relaxing journey designed to bring ex-service personnel together, promote positive mental health, and provide a welcoming space for social connection.
The trip offered participants a chance to unwind, take in the scenic surroundings, and reconnect with the military camaraderie that is central to the Forest Forces initiative.
Forest Forces, delivered by Nottingham Forest Foundation provides vital support to military veterans and public service personnel across the region. Through regular social gatherings, outdoor trips, and health and wellbeing sessions, the programme aims to combat social isolation and assist ex-forces personnel in civilian life.

The trip was made possible thanks to generous grant funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, one of the UK’s leading military charities dedicated to assisting British ex-service personnel and their families.
Becky Daykin, Forest Forces Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Foundation, said:
“It was a wonderful opportunity for our Veteran community to experience something new on our Forest Forces calendar. Getting out on the Chesterfield Canal gives our veterans a great opportunity to relax, socialise, and enjoy the outdoors together. We are immensely grateful to the Veterans’ Foundation for their support in making events like this possible.”
Nottingham Forest Foundation remain committed to enhancing local support networks and offering unique experiences for those who have served.
