Building Wellbeing through Resilient Reds
Community, connection, and a warm plate of food came together at a recent Resilient Reds session in Calverton, where local residents gathered for a hands-on cookery demonstration. Using ingredients donated by a local food bank, participants learned how to cook a nutritious, budget-friendly Chickpea and Lentil Curry – showing how accessible, wholesome cooking can be a gateway to better physical and mental health.
Designed to support physical and mental wellbeing, build resilience, and develop lasting community connections, the Resilient Reds programme serves as a welcoming local space for residents to recharge, connect, and grow.
Supported by the Premier League Foundation, the initiative directly addresses local challenges and tackles inequality, ensuring communities across the region feel supported, included, and empowered.

By leveraging the local reach of the Nottingham Forest Foundation, the programme delivers a range of free sessions across the region, offering a holistic approach to community health. Whether helping families establish healthier habits or supporting adults with their physical and mental well-being, Resilient Reds ensures practical, health-focused resources are accessible right at the heart of local communities.
One Resilient Reds participants said:
“Having a space to come like this is fantastic. I’ve managed to meet new people and it’s something that I look forward to on a weekly basis. We can come along, take part in a range of activities and get support.”
Speaking on the impact of the initiative, Colin Eley, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Nottingham Forest Foundation, said
“The Resilient Reds sessions are all about creating safe, engaging spaces where people can come together, learn practical skills, and boost their overall wellbeing. Seeing the Calverton community gather for the cookery demonstration- using food bank donations to make a delicious meal from scratch – perfectly captures what this programme is about. It’s not just about learning a new recipe; it’s about breaking down barriers, tackling local health inequalities, and building strong, supportive community ties.”
Through practical demonstrations, peer support, and inclusive activities, Nottingham Forest Foundation continues to empower local residents to live well, feel great, and stay active together.
