Primary and secondary school children from across Nottingham took part in a high-energy School Community Day – a collaborative initiative delivered in partnership between Nottingham Forest Foundation and Notts Gymnastics Academy (NGA).

The event welcomed pupils from local schools throughout the day for action-packed coaching sessions in football, hockey, and gymnastics.

Primary pupils from the Foundation’s Premier League Primary Stars and Premier League Inspires programmes, Crossdale Primary School and Sneinton St Stephen’s CE Primary School joined in the morning session, with secondary students from Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, Farnborough Spencer Academy, Bluecoat Academy, and The Trent Community School taking part across the afternoon.

Importantly, the day focused on providing inclusive, accessible opportunities for all participants – giving young people the chance to try new sports and access high-quality facilities outside of their usual school routine.

The action-packed schedule saw pupils rotate through tailored workshops, starting with a welcome briefing before diving straight into expert-led sessions in football, hockey, and gymnastics, concluding with a presentation to celebrate their achievements.

Miss Conniss, PE Teacher at Farnborough Spencer Academy, said: “I think days like this are really important because they broaden students’ experiences by introducing them to new sports and skills, as well as providing opportunities outside of school.

It’s an amazing opportunity, and I hope it encourages more clubs and organisations to offer these experiences to schools and our students.”

The event highlighted the positive impact of bringing local sports providers together to support young people in the community and encourage active lifestyles.

Bobby Oldham, Facility and Community Manager at Notts Gymnastics Academy, said: “Today was all about giving children the chance to experience sports and facilities they wouldn’t normally have access to.

The focus wasn’t necessarily on having the most sporting children, but on giving every child the opportunity to try something new, put a smile on their face and experience something different. Ultimately, it was about giving something back to the community.”
