Future Coaches Inspired by Visit to the City Ground
Students from Nottingham Forest Foundation’s education programme, delivered in partnership with West Nottinghamshire College, recently kicked off their academic year with an inspiring trip to the iconic City Ground.
Designed to prepare the next generation of sports professionals, the visit provided students with an immersive introduction to their upcoming work placements and a first-hand look into the operations of a Premier League football club charity.
During the visit, students were taken on an exclusive behind-the-scenes stadium tour, which included a memorable stop sitting in the home team dugout. Beyond walking in the footsteps of professional football staff and players, the session focused heavily on professional development.
Students explored how the Nottingham Forest Foundation leverages the power of sport to drive meaningful change across local communities, while learning essential standards around safeguarding, professional conduct, and the key responsibilities involved in representing a Premier League foundation.

Tom Norton, Head of Programmes at Nottingham Forest Foundation, said:
“Providing young people with opportunities to gain real-world experience within a Premier League club environment is invaluable to their studies. By introducing students to our work at the City Ground and in our local communities, we hope to ignite their ambition, develop their practical leadership skills, and inspire them to make a positive, lasting impact in our wider communities through sport.”
Student Harley Greatorex shared how the experience fuelled his career ambitions:
“Visiting the ground really inspired me to pursue my career in coaching even further, by working harder and developing my coaching skills.”
The collaborative programme between West Notts College and Nottingham Forest Foundation provides students with a unique combination of academic study and practical workplace opportunities. As the new term begins, students can look forward to building their confidence, sharpening their practical coaching skills, and making a lasting, positive impact in the community through sport.
